A seminar with Alva Gotby
On Friday, the 28th of April, from 6 pm onwards, an unruly event will take place at Temporary Gallery, Centre for Contemporary Art in Cologne: a long evening and night of live performances, poetry, stories, music, dance, drinks and food.
We will share our feelings concerning different forms of kinship in our lives – it will be a gathering about love, intimacy, bonding, friendship, comradeship, sex, family relationships, and all other forms of being close that we imagine to be possible. We will collectively “mother” ourselves and each other: give attention, support and care – in short, we will become the motherers.
The event will commence at 6pm with an intimate reading performance by Liz Rosenfeld. (This act has limited seating, please be on time.) We will drift into the night with readings, performances and music, carried by participants of the Unruly Kinships exhibition and selected contributions from an open call for the Festival of Feelings. A hearty food will be catered by Sofia Steffens, fermented healings drinks served by Julius Metzger, and the hyperlovecollective and Hajnowisko will provide sonic acts and music for the night.
On Sunday 30 April we invite everyone to a seminar and conversation with Alva Gotby, author of the book “They Call it Love. The politics of emotional reproduction” (Verso, 2023). During the event we will discuss othermothering, informal economies, queer reproduction and radical politics of friendship.
Festival of Feelings is the closing event of the exhibition Unruly Kinships. .
Am Freitag, den 28. April ab 18 Uhr, wird in der Temporary Gallery. Zentrum für zeitgenössische Kunst in Köln, eine ungewöhnliche Veranstaltung stattfinden: ein langer Abend und eine Nacht voller Live-Performances, Poesie, Geschichten, Musik, Tanz, Getränke und Essen.
Wir werden unsere Gefühle in Bezug auf verschiedene Formen der Verwandtschaft in unserem Leben teilen — es wird ein Treffen über Liebe, Intimität, Bindung, Freundschaft, Kameradschaft, Sex, Familienbeziehungen und alle anderen Formen der Nähe, die wir uns vorstellen können. Wir werden uns selbst und einander kollektiv “bemuttern” (“mother”): uns Aufmerksamkeit, Unterstützung und Fürsorge geben — kurz gesagt, wir werden zu Motherers (“Bemutterern”).
Die Veranstaltung beginnt um 18 Uhr mit einer intimen Leseperformance von Liz Rosenfeld. (Die Anzahl der Plätze ist begrenzt, bitte seid pünktlich.) Mit Lesungen, Performances und Musik, getragen von Teilnehmer*innen der Ausstellung Unruly Kinships und ausgewählten Beiträgen aus einem Open Call für das Festival of Feelings, werden wir in die Nacht entschweben. Für ein herzhaftes Essen sorgt Sofia Steffens, fermentierte Heilgetränke werden von Julius Metzger serviert, und das hyperlovecollective und Hajnowisko werden die Nacht mit Soundacts und Musik untermalen.
Am Sonntag, den 30. April, laden wir zu einem Seminar und einem Gespräch mit Alva Gotby ein, Autorin des Buches “They Call it Love. The politics of emotional reproduction” (Verso, 2023). Während der Veranstaltung werden wir über othermothering, informelle Ökonomien, queere Reproduktion und radikale Politiken der Freundschaft diskutieren.
Das Festival of Feelings ist die Abschlussveranstaltung der Ausstellung Unruly Kinships.
